Contributions

The Elderly Nutrition Program/Meals on Wheels is the main source of nutrition for over 2,200 seniors and other qualified participants throughout the County. Although our program is primarily funded by grant programs, voluntary contributions are an integral and much needed aspect of our Program. Enrollees of the program are welcome to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the meal.

Celebrating Over 30 Years of Service

WELCOME to Elderly Nutrition

Pasco County Elderly Nutrition/Meals on Wheels is celebrating over 30 years of dedicated service this year. We provide a wide variety of services throughout the County. Read below for more information on specific services or contact the office near you.

Home-Delivered Meals: Funded in part by the Older Americans Act (OAA), these meals are for individuals who are age sixty (60) or over and who are also frail and homebound. Income is not a factor in determining eligibility. Enrollment begins by calling our office. Before meals can be delivered, a home visit is necessary to determine eligibility and need for service. There is no charge for the meal, but enrollees of the program can make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the meal. The meals are preplanned and provide a minimum of 33 and 1/3 percent of the Dietary Reference Intak/Adequate Intake (DRI/AI) for an age of 70+ female as established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences. There are no optional meal choices available.  Each meal comes with milk, bread, and a dessert. For enrollment information, please see  Request for Home Delivery Service.

Congregate Dining: There are eight (8) congregate dining centers throughout the County. Here, an individual can enjoy the meal as well as socialization. These centers are available for anyone over sixty (60) years of age, regardless of income. Enrollees of the program can make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the meal. Pasco County Public Transportation is also available to some of the dining sites. Please see Locations for the dining site near you.

Nutrition Education and Nutrition Counseling: Is available to all enrollees in the OAA home delivered meals or congregate programs. Nutrition Education and Nutrition Counseling are provided at no cost and aimed to benefit the enrollee.

  • Nutrition Education: Once a month, culturally sensitive, nutrition health, and disease prevention information is presented to all Older Americans Act participants.

  • Nutrition Counseling: This is an optional service available to all OAA participants. If an OAA participant elects this service, a County certified nutritionist will provide counseling on diet, exercise, and answer any questions regarding their nutrition. Again, this service is aimed at improving the health and well being of our participants.

Direct Customer Billed Meal Service (Meals on Wheels): This program is for anyone of any age needing a home delivered meal. Elderly Nutrition/Meals on Wheels has been operating this direct customer billed program since 1992. Meals on Wheels affords the individual an opportunity to pay out of pocket and in advance for meal services or for children of seniors to pre-pay for their parents meals. The Meals on Wheels option especially benefits the younger disabled citizen, regardless of age, who may not be eligible for the Older Americans Act meal program. There is a one time $10.00 registration fee for one (1) person, $15.00 for two (2) and the cost per meal is $6.00. For enrollment information, please see Request for Meals on Wheels. The meals are preplanned and provide a minimum of 33 and 1/3 percent of the Dietary Reference Intake/Adequate Intake (DRI/AI) for an age of 70+ female as established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences. At this time, there are no optional meal choices available. Hot or frozen meals are available and delivered Monday through Friday.
