About Us

The primary responsibility of the Road and Bridge Department is to provide and maintain a safe roadway network for the traveling public.  At the present time, this includes the maintenance of 1,593 miles of paved roads ranging from local residential to urban arterial and 189 miles of unpaved roads.  Along with the above tasks, 44 bridges, over 61,000 traffic control and informational signs, thermoplastic roadway striping, and rights-of-way mowing are under this department's jurisdiction.  The rights-of-way enhancement program adds and maintains a variety of trees, bushes, shrubs and other ground cover to selected medians on arterial and collector roadways.
