Our Mission

Stormwater Management Division's main function is to manage Pasco County's stormwater management programs and maintain the County's stormwater drainage system. The Division's mission is to focus on reducing the potential loss of life or property due to flooding, protecting the County's waters from stormwater pollution and improving the County's storm drainage system.

The Division is responsible for managing and maintaining the County's 19 watersheds. A watershed is the geographic area on the land surface through which stormwater flows across the land and then drains into a lake, stream, river or ocean. Another key responsibility of the Division is to manage and support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood mapping update program.

Stormwater Management Division's Goals and Programs are:

  • Promptly respond to all citizen requests.
  • In the short term perform major stormwater maintenance with a contract maintenance crew. Longer term, increase the capability of the Road and Bridge Department.
  • Complete the inventory of the County's stormwater infrastructure, and maintain a Geographic
Information System (GIS) database of the infrastructure.
  • Complete the watershed management studies for the County including the creation and adoption of up to date flood maps for each watershed.
  • Provide the plans, specifications and engineering services for the Best Management Practices (BMPs) as recommended in the watershed studies and promote their development and implementation.
  • Maximize Division funding by partnering with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) in their cooperative funding program.
  • Prepare and submit annual reports to comply with the NPDES MS4 permit.
  • Educate the public on the effects of stormwater pollution and ways to improve stormwater quality.
